Move over, Santa Claus! A lion named Santa Claws is stealing the holiday spotlight as Philadelphia Zoo’s LumiNature returns this holiday season.
From Nov. 19 through Jan. 9 you can experience more than 1 million twinkling lights and a wild new adventure.
This year, the animals have written their holiday wish lists to Santa Claws and you can explore 14 glowing stops, including a 40-foot penguin, a 25-foot tree made of lawn flamingos and a new 20-foot illuminated banana tree. The 110-foot Pherris Wheel also returns for its final appearance at the Zoo.
And that’s not all. There is more magic in store as the KidZooU will offer nightly animal encounters, while adults can sip their way through the first-ever LumiNature Cocktail Walk on Dec. 5.

West Philadelphia community groups will also spread holiday cheer with decorated trees, and visitors can vote for their favorites.
“From unlocking surprises with your Zoo Key to meeting Santa Claws, there’s magic around every corner. In the spirit of the season, we’re inviting guests to help make wishes come true for animals here at the Zoo and around the world, bringing the joy of giving to this special holiday experience. We can’t wait to celebrate another bright and magical holiday season with you,” Philadelphia Zoo President and CEO Dr. Jo-Elle Mogerman said in a news release.
