INDIANAPOLIS — Two men are behind bars after millions worth of psychedelic mushrooms were seized in Indianapolis.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, “Operation Bad Trip” was sparked by an investigation into a fatal overdose in early 2026.

Police said detectives with IMPD Overdose Death Task Force worked to find not only the dealer but the origin and supply chain of drugs entering the community.

With assistance from the DEA, Indiana State Police and Beech Grove Police Department, police ultimately identified a likely source and distributor.

On Oct. 21, IMPD, ISP, and the DEA executed search warrants at multiple locations across the city, seizing over 1,800 pounds of psilocybin in various forms, including:

  • Over 1,500lbs of unprocessed psilocybin (mushrooms) valued between $2.1-$4.2 million
  • 25lbs of dried cultivated psilocybin
  • 66lbs of psilocybin edibles
  • 277lbs of liquid psilocybin drinks

Investigators also found two sawed-off shotguns, two AR rifles, three AR pistols, $9,500 in cash, two vehicles, six pounds of marijuana, and hundreds of counterfeit pills, including ecstasy and molly.

A 41-year-old and a 26-year-old were arrested on charges of dealing and possession of a controlled substance.

“This investigation represents more than just a major drug seizure,” said Lieutenant Justin Gough. “It is a reminder to our community that when lives are lost, we do not stop at the first suspect. We will continue pursuing justice and working to remove these harmful substances from our neighborhoods. Every step we take is about protecting families and preventing another tragedy.”
