Lindenwold Middle School closes after fan heater issue activates fire alarm

Lindenwold Middle School was closed Thursday after an electrical issue caused by a fan heater triggered the fire alarm, according to the Lindenwold Fire Department.

The middle school in Camden County closed as a precaution after firefighters responded to a fire alarm at the school early Thursday. When first responders arrived, they noticed smoke in the stairwell and a burning odor.

Firefighters from Laurel Springs and Lindenwold investigated and determined that the issue stemmed from an older fan heater.

“This is another example of fire alarm systems doing the job they are meant to and preventing a small issue from becoming a larger one,” the fire department wrote in a Facebook post.

Police said all other schools in this district remained open on Thursday.

Thursday’s incident came just over a month after Lindenwold Elementary School 4 was forced to close for several days following a fire that was later determined to be accidental.

Lindenwold firefighters reminded residents in need of smoke detectors to contact them at 856-346-0935 or go to their website for more.
