INDIANAPOLIS — Two people were found dead Thursday morning following a shooting on Indianapolis’ northwest side, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
Dispatchers received a report of a person shot in the 4400 block of Moller Road at the Colonial Square Apartments just south of West 46th Street just after 8 a.m.
When officers arrived, they located a deceased man and a woman inside a residence.
IMPD originally reported both victims had been shot. Ofc. Tommy Thompson later clarified to media at the scene that the man was found with a gunshot wound, while the woman had unspecified trauma injuries.
Two firearms were recovered from the scene. It’s not clear what led up to the shooting or if there were any suspects, though it is an isolated incident. Thompson did not confirm if the deaths were a murder-suicide, but said detectives would explore that aspect.
“This is devastating for this community,” Thompson said. “The male, in this incident … taking two lives – it affects multiple victims. We have to protect our community, our officers, our first responders. If you are going through something with your mental health, there are options. Call us; we can get you a ride to a hospital. We can find ways around this – we have to do better with conflict resolution.”
Thompson noted several children were inside the home at the time; Victims’ Assistance and the Department of Child Services were at the scene to assist.
Investigators were expected to be at the scene for several hours.
This is a developing story.
