Highway 37 in the North Bay will shut down in both directions this weekend to allow Caltrans crews time to raise the flood-prone area ahead of a potentially powerful El Niño and winter storms.
Motorists traveling through the area should expect significant delays and increased travel times.
Here’s what to know about the closure and detour information.
The closure on the highway starts at 10 p.m. Friday. Caltrans expects to reopen lanes by 5 a.m. Monday.
Highway 37 will shut down between Mare Island in Vallejo and Sears Point in Sonoma County, according to Caltrans.

Highway 37 near Mare Island has flooded repeatedly over the years.
Caltrans said the work is designed to help reduce flooding risks on the vital commuter route.
