(KRON) -- eBay is planning to cut about 9% of its workforce, roughly around 1,000 jobs, according to multiple reports. This would mark the second round of layoffs this year for the e-commerce giant, which is headquartered in San Jose.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the job cuts are part of a plan to refocus resources on top priorities, and the company will continue to hire in areas that are aligned with that strategy.

"This step was taken to ensure we continue to operate from a position of strength," an eBay spokesperson told the Journal.
"Our strategy is working," said eBay CEO Jamie Iannone in a memo reviewed by Reuters, "continuing to capture the significant opportunity ahead requires us to make thoughtful choices about where we focus and invest."
According to Reuters, which first reported the news, impacted employees will be informed in the coming days. As of the end of last year, eBay had around 12,300 employees. Earlier this year, the company cut around 800 jobs.
